Moon Goddess

Thanks to Allison improvising a ‘crystal ball’ using a bowl of water, I didn’t spend the rest of our time in Finland on edge.

As far as she managed to see, the crone wouldn’t be coming back for revenge. Kingsley remarked that she probably figured it easier and less risky to simply trap some other people elsewhere than be anywhere near my sword and my family.

That both calmed me and left me feeling a little guilty.

I hated that she got away and would likely be a dangerous menace to other people wherever she went. However, I’d done all I could there. She’d gone off to some other dimension for all we knew, and neither Tammy nor Allison could figure out where. The kids seemed to brush off the old one tricking them into the woods as a non-event and appeared to enjoy the remainder of our time hiking and canoeing before we went south to visit the city of Helsinki.

Following a relaxing and highly normal two days, we proceeded on to the next stop on our once-in-a-lifetime vacation: Denmark, specifically Copenhagen. In contrast to Finland, our plans here involve mostly staying inside the city. Tammy’s getting a bit restless at her separation from her friends and Kai for ‘so long.’ Teenagers, right? Another three weeks is an eternity. I can’t really call her hypocritical for complaining about being on a vacation that is a result of her suggestion since this trip is quite a bit more than what she had in mind.

Maybe next year we’ll do a simple ‘week in Hawaii’ or something. But, honestly, if we want to hang out on the beach, we live in California. A Hawaii trip didn’t seem all that much different than staying home. Sure, the food would be different and the plants more tropical, but beach is beach, the sun is the sun.

Anthony’s been trying to sneak time on his video game wherever the hotel internet allows, but most of the time it’s either been too slow to play at all or he can connect but it’s so “laggy” it’s not worth it. Our hotel in Helsinki, and the one here in Copenhagen, have enough of a connection that he spent a few hours on our ‘travel and settle in’ day online.

I took advantage of that to hit the town with Kingsley that night. Tammy’d gone antisocial that night and claimed she’d ‘just be in bed,’ but ended up watching a movie with Allison in our hotel room. The big guy and I went out to dinner before we slipped off into the city, ultimately ending up on the shore of a lake I think was called Fælledsøen. Don’t ask me how to pronounce it, but that’s what the sign called it.

We had an extremely romantic time on the lake.

Wow, it’s been years since I did the deed outside. Not since college. There’s something about moonlight and the wind all over me… I shiver again merely remembering it.
